I'm looking doubtful, and no its not because its my aniversary. I replaced the starter tonight and hit the key and poooof. Glad I had a fire extinguiser handy I killed the flames before too much damage.

2 wires from the stud on back of remote solenoid (I'm sure one is ground not sure about the other 14 ga) have melted and caught fire in the passenger foot box. I'm thinking they rubbed against battery cable. I need some guidance and then will attempt to re-wire tomrw night. The starter never even clicked hope I didn't damage it. Think the remote solenoid is fried?

Dave,
The battery cable and large wire to the starter go on the same pole of the remote rely, the smaller wire goes on the other large pole of the relay to the smaller pole on the starter mounted solenoid. The little wire on the remote relay goes to the ingnition switch. Put the wires in loom.

That's the way it's wired and I have loom on them. for some reason I have 2 ground wires on the mounting stud of the remote solenoid that run back to a grounding block under dash (not in loom), those are the ones that melted and caught fire. I had some passengers last weekend not sure if something got kicked under there and caused a short.  I also have a big fuse off the remote that I need to check.

The relay bracket grounds it to the frame, their should not be any ground wires.

is it mounted to a fiberglass footbox?  Maybe it needs the ground wire in order for the relay coil to fire.

I beleive it does come off the bracket and runs to a central grounding block that runs to frame. Some fellow Cumberland regulars volunteered to come over tonight after work to take a look and help get me straighten out.

Moran's to the rescue, see you in Cumberland. Not sure if a loose ground caused the remote to fry or other way around but we bypassed remote and I'm back in business.

Glad you got it fixed Dave. Good luck to you all in Cumberland! We go through there on Monday on our way back to Deep Creek for a few days.
