I also have scatterguns suitable for these games, if anyone needs to mooch.

A Beretta Onyx O/U, a Rem 1100, in addition to a pre-war Browning A-5

Fred, do you have a clay bird thrower?  [Fill in obvious punch lines here].

Ben,

You have good taste in shotguns.   I also have a Beretta 686 Onyx O/U, and two Belgian Browning A5s.  And others of course....

Phil and Ben, tell me about your A5's.  I have a pile of them at home.  My favorites being the stright stocked A5s' from pre WW1.  Here are 5 early guns 12's and a 16.

Regarding home defense, racking the slide is stupid mach mano stuff.  It's a good way to make a good situation bad and a bad situation tragic.

If there is really a chance that your going to need to shoot you should have a shell in the chamber and the only noise will be the safety coming off.

There's an echo in here....

The slide racking sound is effective and a good litmus test, if they dont run after that, you need to get ready...
Or, the racking sound may be the last sound you hear.

It's time to schedule something or put this thread to bed.

How is Jan 29th? thats the Sunday before the Super Bowl. I'm thinking shooting 1-3pm and drinking and lie telling 3-5pm. We have a clubhouse, nothing fancy but it has a kitchen and poker table.  If we can get at least 8 people signed up I'll reserve the range.

Very nice collection!  I love A-5s!  I wish I had a pre-War "sweet sixteen."  Mine is a pistol gripped Belgian Pre WWII 12 gauge.   I think.  I'd love to pull the serial no. and run it through some reference works to be sure, but I don;t know the standard references for this model.  Not much of a shotgun collector.  Mine have all been purchased mainly for function.

Ben,

Regarding the Sweet Sixteen.  Browning introduced the first Sweet Sixteens after WW2.  The standard Sixteen was made from around 1909 into the 1960's.  The difference between the guns was about 10 oz of steel milled out of the inside of the receiver and the barrel ring.

The Browning site info on serial numbers on the A5's dates is a bad joke....  Send me the number by PM and I'll date your gun for you.

Here are a few more A5's to peruse:
