WTB: 302 alternator bracket
« on: January 13, 2012, 07:16:28 am »
Looking for an aftermarket alternator bracket for a 5.0/302.  March or similar.  Passenger side mount.  Everybody changes their mind about accessory mounts and stuff like this during the build...somebody must have one laying around.   :)

Wade...  Sounds like you want something with bling....   I have what I think is a stock mount (stamped steel) from a 302/289 that mounts on the passenger side about even with the head.  It's pretty much the same as what's on the Superformance's if you don't order the bling mount.  Don't remember where I got it.  It's silver like an OEM part.  You're welcome to try it and keep it if it works.  I gave the second OEM boat anchor casting back to Scott but I don't think it would look good in a Cobra.

Elder - why not get a shorter belt and get rid of the airpump eliminator stuff?  Less weight and one less bearing to worry about self destructing at the track.

go from the power steering pump,. around the WP pulley to the crank, and from the crank straight to the alternator  :uglystupid2:

If you still need it, I have the march kit, less the little spacer that attaches to the alternator. I can cut one out for you if you needed.

If I'm understanding what you're saying that's the same thing I've done.  I used this as a reference:

Some instructions here:  http://cobra.spintime.org/eng_install.html

I seem to recall having to get a reverse flow WP though.

I seem to recall having to get a reverse flow WP though.

The water pump turns the same way as stock (which IS a reverse flow) and the same as Scott's above.

Pappy - sorry,  I have no idea of the belt size.    It usually takes me 14 trips to the parts store to get the right one whenever I change a belt routing.  Masking tape or string will get you close.
