Manassas Festival of Freedom Update (show off your cars)
« on: September 30, 2004, 11:11:51 am »
Folks,

The organizers of the Oct 16 and 17 event say that we can bring our cars for half a day if we would like.  This is a change from my earlier post that said you'd have to be in place by 0730 and stay till 1600 (4 PM National Guard Time). They've designated an area for car clubs and you can come for the 8 till noon or noon till 4 PM period either day if you can't stay for an entire day.  By the way - the Porsche club is bringing 30 cars!

B-17 and B-24 rides available for $$$$.

The museum says they have 20 vintage aircraft coming as of today.  POC is Cathy at (703) 393-0660.

Mike,

The show is at the Manassas Airport near the intersection of Rt 28 and the Rt 234 bypass.  Here is a link to their web site:  http://www.freedommuseum.org/festival.html

Give Cathy a call for details not covered in their ad.
Or contact me at robinbarrows@comcast.net

Thanks for your interest,

I didn't have an opportunity to take photos of the WWII A/C but our train club photographer did snap this one.

Damn, I was hoping to see some old fighter planes with cobras. I grew up near an airbase and the airshow days were a highlight of the summer.

The guy on the far right looks like he cant believe he's going home with the three lovely ladies. ;)

The show was light on fighter planes.  There was one F4U Corsair.  The stars of the show were the B-17 and B-24 which gave rides to those willing to pay the freight.

They didn't allow any cars on the ramp.  Mine and the other Cobra were parked out in front near the gate - and got a lot of attention.

sounds like a fun day.

What was the 'freight' charge? Do you remember off hand?
