BDM Alignment Day

Dane,
Thanks for setting up the venue for the 4-wheel alignment. I found it very informative for adjusting the suspensions for both the track and street. Good job! :D

Ditto Dane!  And thanks Jack, for letting me take the Cobra for a spin!  I didn't break too many speed limits on the way back...

HEY DANE,

THANKS VERY MUCH FOR SETTING UP THE DAY YESTERDAY.  IT WAS A GREAT EXPERIENCE AND A GREAT CONTACT.  I'M GOING TO TAKE BOTH OF MY CARS BACK THERE FOR ADDITIONAL WORK INCLUDING HAVING BRIAN INSTALL THE KENNE-BELL SUPERCHARGER AND A RE-WORK OF THE FRONT SUSPENSION ON THE EXCALIBUR.

SCOTT B.,

THANKS FOR HELPING ME SHUTTLE CARS AROUND.  YOU'RE A REAL CHAMP.  GETTING UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT IS A BIG SACRIFICE.  THANKS AGAIN

Real nice day on Saturday - thanks for setting it up, Dane.  I thought Dan and Bryan at BDM were great and I can feel a difference in the way my car turns into corners now (although the track will be the true test).

Best thing about Saturday - it got me out of going to an ice skating thing with my wife.  But I'm sure I will pay for that later ...

Thanks again, Dane.

Thanks Dane,

The best part of the day was the burn out contest.

caster measurement?

What did they use to measure caster?

Did they have a fancy tool or did they just use a bubble caster gauge?

BDM Camber Gauge
« Reply #7 on: April 17, 2002, 04:17:42 pm »
The camber gauge used by BDM is available from Smart Racing Products. 1-800-383-0808 or smartracingproducts.com. They have a catalog of all their products. I thought it was a slick tool and will have one in my garage some day soon.

BDM and SlabSide Info.
« Reply #8 on: April 17, 2002, 04:41:59 pm »
Anyone tasked with a short "thank you" note to BDM for last Sat's

event? By correcting my toe-in from 1.7 inch (right) to 0.125 both

right and left, I can tell the difference! Car does not seem nearly

so "darty" and skittish.  And my thanks! to CACC member who set it up from this end.

Thinking about those of you who have commented on my SlabSide, it

occurs to me that I forgot to relay my latest post-delivery and break-

in "surprise."

For background:

"65 AC" picked up by transporter (under protest) at shop in Coos Bay,

OR on or about 13 Dec 2000, after 19 months of construction. Car

delivered Columbia, MD on or about 18 Dec with approx. 25 miles on

odo, as I recall. Back overseas at end of Christmas break with

return and regular driving in May of last year.

Items noted at delivery:

4 of 8 spark plugs finger tight

distributor loose and had moved out of time

differential nearly dry

2 coils and 1 ignition control module burned out (apparently if key

is left in "ON" position for more than a few seconds without engine

running, 12 volts to coil causes it to overheat and explode). (messy)

Fixes/Adds

Single, 12 volt horn with no relay inadequate. 2 Hellas with relay

needed/addded.

headlights converted to 90w/100 euro Code QI with integral parking

bulb; heavy wiring and relays. Use as way cool (unmandated and

unforced) DRLs

12-13 gal gas tank makes range about 180-190 miles @16 mpg

hole in transmission tunnel too small for unrestricted shifting

with rubber shift boot. Needed cutting/filing or leather shift boot.

Difficult shifting experienced in Jan/Feb. Clutch input pilot

bearing found totally dry. Replaced with permanently lubed "roller"

bearing unit. (Orig dry bearing sent back to Coos Bay for comment.

No response.)  Mechanic did opine that clutch throwout bearing

setup was very nice. I gather it is a Tilson unit modified for

racing application.

If there are any specific questions, please advise.
