Anyone have a good spare T-5?
« on: October 02, 2006, 11:06:25 am »
Hey Ya'll,  I'm in need of a good T-5 within a short time frame (this week or so).  Anyone have a good spare they'd like to sell?  Has to be for a 88-93 5.0 fox body.

Thanks,
Frank

Frank,

Good T5 is as much of an oxymoron as military intelligence

The best I can do is all the parts minus 3rd gear and the countershaft. Waiting for me to get off my butt and decide between 2.95 and 3.35 first gearand order some parts.

:)

Yea, I know... it's a PITA.  I'm thinking that I'll just have to buy a new one.  I may have a line on a Tremec 3550 for $600 but not sure yet.  will know more tomorrow.  If that doesn't work out... it's a WC T-5 with the gears I don't need.

Scott - you asking Frank or me?

I am thinking the upgrade to the 2.95 t5 Z gears to go behind the new engine I will assemble this winter (well that is the plan)

Stephen,

The 2.95, which is like the 2.87 TKO600 have to be the best gears. With a 3.55 rear and a .82 OD, that would be perfect for burn-outs and cruising.

Frank;  I have a brand new Gordon Levy Super Duty t5 in a box in my garage waiting to go in my FFR... I have a recently rebuilt T5 in there that I've decided to swap out before I hurt it...  its perfect, only 1000 miles on it,  but I have no idea when I'll get a chance to swap it out...  :(  It'll be looking for a new home when it's done however...

Hi Ed,

I really need the transmission within the next week or so.  It's a long story but I've got to get this car moving.

Thanks,
Frank

Let us know what you decide to go with, but FWIW, I would reccomend first the Tremec and second just go to Sterling Ford ( local Motorsport dealer) and buy a new Z tranny. 703.430.3673  Talk to Joe Hill and mention Colin sent you his way. Maybe he can help you out in some way. They have helped me out quite a bit with many parts for my race car.

Best of luck.

Hey Tink,  You know where I'm going with this but I can't afford the Tremec at this point in time.   I found a deal on the World Class T-5 at a dealership in Baltimore.  I've got to head down to G&T Coatings Friday AM then I turn around and head to Baltimore to grab the T-5.  Since I now have the 91 LX SCCA CP Mustang that I'm going to convert to CMC I'll need spares.  Also I do want to build a FFR Spec car too.  I love them things.   :smitten:

So... I'll let you know how things turn out.  Price quoted for the new WC T-5 $1,275.00.  I think that's cool.

The last T5-Z I got from Koons was $1100 plus tax, no freight- FOB their dealership in Sterling, VA.
And I just got some coupons from Koons worth $100 off on parts.
It takes them 1-2 days to get the trans if not in stock.

How much are the Tremecs going for these days? (I bought a new 3550 on the Corral for $1770 shipped, and that was with the McLeod alum flwheel, Street-Twin clutch, and a 5.0 Pro-shifter) IOTW, you might want to shop around , especially the Mustang sites....
