Autocross for Rehoboth Fun Run 2007
« on: January 09, 2007, 01:10:10 pm »
Rob and I have talked about possibly organizing an autocross for the next fun run, and so far, I've checked in to use of the Sussex County Air Park.  The manager there was all for it (he organizes the Wings 'n Wheels car show); however, he said that County Council would definately be against using the tarmac for that.   :tickedoff: SO, the next local place we could look would be Dover Air Force Base.  If I recall correctly, Mike Holt had a DAFB window sticker on his Cobra.  Mike,  do you know anyone that I could contact at DAFB to determine this as a potential?

Other sites that may be useful could be the Harrington Fair Grounds parking area, Dover Downs parking area, Ocean City Convention Center Parking Area, NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (farthest from Rehoboth).  If anyone has other ideas for location, please post and I will gladly look into.  Most of the parking lots I've seen either have big concrete light bases and/or curbed island targets which I think we would all like to avoid.

Bob,
I posted on the other thread about Dover AFB...not a possibility.  Security being what it is, the only area that would be suitable for an autocross is on the airfield itself.  They won't let us on there.  Of course that would add a level of interest to an autocross...being chased by security police and dodging M-16 rounds!  We could call it combat autocross!

The ocean city convention center is an idea!  Anyone close to OC that could check it out?  Or what about OC municipal Airport?

Dates are finalized.  The dates are the first weekend in October.....October 5-7th.  The Holiday Inn Express has a two-night miniumum and the price is $139/night.  This is a busy weekend because of the HotRod show in Ocean City, Greyhound weekend, and the Sidewalk Sales in Rehoboth.  I am trying to get a cheaper rate if you pay for it ahead of time and it be non-refundable for those that want to do that.  When you call, you must tell them you are part of the "Rehoboth Fun Run" to get that rate....otherwise it will be more.  They only have 20 rooms at this point, so don't delay in booking your room.  The rooms are refundable at the $139 rate.

I will start a new thread for this.
