Hello from Monrovia...
« on: July 07, 2008, 08:10:10 am »
Hello, my name is Dave Casson.  I live in Monrovia, MD.  I am a Systems/Network Engineer by trade.  I am presently building a 1965 Hurricane Cobra.

You can go to the link below to see what the car will look like and progress thus far, although I am a bit slow on posting right now.

The car will have the following:

351W w/EFI velocity stacks
3.27 Rear Gear
Trmemk TKO600 tranny with .82 OD
17: Wheels (R) 315/35 on 17x11" RIM and (F) 275/40 on 17x9" RIM
Also looking at putting a pnuematic air jack system in the car.

I also have a 1966 Mustang convertable.

Well that is it for now.  Hope to meet you folks at the Inn in Vienna sometime soon, although for now I will be driving something else until i get my car done.

Dave

Thanks!

Love the signature cartoon. SWEET!

I am having issues getting the motor finished (woodruf key and water pump)  Hoping I can chat or hookup with someone that knows the 351W motor and might be able to help and get me over the hump.

Thanks again!

Dave

Dave,
Welcome to the club.  I did a double take when I saw your subject line because I just finally relocated here from Pomona, CA which is about 15 miles from Monrovia, CA!  Keep us posted on the build.

Dave,
I'm sure someone here can advise you on the water pump. Welcome!

Welcome Dave,

Too bad 75 & 80 is now closed... you would have your own local test track.

Warren and I are not too far from you.

Welcome Dave.

Plenty of experience in CACC with 351s.

Please show us pix of the air jacks when you get to that.

BTW which ECU are you going to use for the EFI....Motec...Electromotive...FAST? I'm most interested in seeing one that works well on a street car. Have never heard from anyone that has been 100% happy about the drivability of these Stack EFIs without incessant tuning.(except perhaps those built and tuned by Roush)

Yeah, bummer they shut down.  There is another track out past Myersville though.

I am using a Redline ECU.  It seems fairly simple and the guy I bought it from was nice enough to set it up for about 400-425HP.

My setup (mostly):

You can see a pic of the stack system on my build page.  It is  TWM induction setup.  Pretty sweet as the rails run down the middle and the return look is a billet piece at the end rather than a large braided hose.  Looks cleaner.

Still working the symantecs out of the air jack system.  Pretty much have the air supply and tank figured out but the pistons are another matter.  Need to see how high the car needs to be for the wheels to come off the ground.  Once I have that I need to find rams with a long enough stroke.  problem is the ones I have found are low end $340.00 and high end $2000.00 each.

Will take pics and draw diagrams if i can get the pistons I need closer to the $340.00 range.

I always thought you could accomplish the same thing with those RV leveling jacks that are electric!! O0

The problem is geting all the arms to come down together.  Unless you use limiting switches or feedback actuators you cannot garuntee you will get 4 arms down at roughly the same time.  Or so I have been told by a few actuator resellers.

I would prefere to go electric as it is ALOT cleaner to install, but I cannot find decent actuators at a reasonable size or feedback actuators above 400lbs that I can use for the task.

Pretty much figured out the mounting points but need to get pistons/actuators that are not to bulky and have the right stroke length that are dependable.  nothing much really.... ;D

Dependable feedback stroke length is very important.  O0

You can save 25% of your money by using only 3 jacks like the gran sport Vettes did, 2 front, 1 rear..  Just a thought.

That is a thought although with the ford 9" it is hard to hit the center and if the trunk has weight that throws off the center then tipping may occur.  Highly unlikely but maybe.  Prefer to error on the side of caution and go with 4.  If the 230mm stroke will work I will get those for about $340.00 a pop.  that is in my price range.

Found a couple of low rider airbag places that have consolidated all the air ride stuff into one nice little neat package.  Get a 2-3 gal tank and I should be good to go.  Plan on mounting it on the ledge in the trunk.

We shall see.  Thanks for the thought.
