Chrysalis is a good one in Middleburg. Great Viognier. Oasis in Hume, Va has world class sparkling wine.

We were out on a cruise two weekends ago.  Oasis looked pretty run down.  House needed painting, vines had weeds and looked half dead.  Oasis was always a prime stopping spot.  I believe they are having some money problems????

Man that sounds like lots of fun. Sadly, I have a Board Meeting and then Homecoming at MMA so I will not be able to participate. How about a bourbon cruise through Kentucky? I bet 'ol Doc would be attempting to mount some of those thoroughbreds after just one or two distillery tours! :buck2: OBTW, did anybody notice the front page of yesterday's Wash. Post? Feature story was about a 14 year old Canadian that plays varsity football at MMA. Great story about MMA and this kid who is being groomed for college and the pros- - -unfortunately, he currently screws up every play or gets pounded.  :embarassed:One of MMA's more notable graduates was Jack Ham who was there as a Post Graduate when I was a senior and MMA's football  program was basically a farm team for several colleges. Most of the PG's needed to get their grade point averages up in order to be admitted to college. As an 175 lb. middle guard, I got my a$$ pounded on just about every play...particularly in practice.  The games were the best...sort of like a day off from punishment. Oh well, thanks for letting me take a trip down memory lane on this post...must be the wine that made me do it. ;)

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll check these and others out over the next week.

I'm also concerned we try to keep away from wineries that are at the end of 2 miles of dusty driveways.

Elder,

Check out Fox Meadow in Linden.  Nice drive up, paved driveway.  Nice view a-top the mountain.  Good wine.  You can wander through Upperville, Delaplane, Rectortown, etc. on nice back roads getting there from M-burg.

Chrysalis - haven't been.  You've heard the 'story' of it's orgins, right?  ;)  Sweedenburg - haven't been, but never see much activity there.  Both are off Rt.50 East of M-burg.

There are 1 or 2 new ones off Rt.55 West of Marshall - might be worth a try.

The following are good wineries, but unfortuantley have 'challenging unpaved' driveways; Linden, 3 Foxes - Delaplane, Mediterranean - Warrenton.

I wish my car wasn't in the paint shop or I'd be there!!!!!  Have fun!

Scott, I would enjoy checking out the wineries with you this Saturday, but I have a wedding in Leesburg a 3:30 and I know from  past stories you won't get back til 9PM.  FYI  -  Three Fox has a  very steep gravel approach - Oaisis is sort of run down - Chateau O'Brian is new and very nice and just off 55 in Markham.  I have found most of these wineries have long gravel drive ways.  My Cobra does fine - I just take it slow.  What ever you decide will work for me.  There is lots to choose from in the Middleburg area. Thanks for pulling this together.

Man, this is something that I was looking forward too.  Now that the trans is out of the cobra and waiting on parts it's a no go... Wine is good. :buck2:

Hi Scott -

I'd be happy to check out the the roads / wineries with you.   I've put together several tours in that general area for a couple of Antique Britiish Sportscar clubs I belong to.  I found some pretty good back roads that I think this group would enjoy.

Just let me know - I live in Herndon.  You may remember me - we spoke for several minutes after the VI breakfast 3 or 4 weeks ago.  I asked lots of questions regarding what cobra / engine to buy.

I'd prefer earlier vs later on Saturday if that's OK
