SUV or Truck Rentals
« on: April 26, 2009, 07:04:45 pm »
I have reserved an enclosed trailer to tow my Cobra to the London Cobra Show, however, the truck I was borrowing to tow the trailer with, will not be available. Does anyone know, besides the regular venues such as Avis, Hertz, Econo Cars, etc, of a reliable place I could rent one from. For those who are already to propose to me to drive up, I would love to drive up to Ohio, however, last year I was playing cat and mouse with the F... bad weather all the way up and back and don't want to do it any again. As long as there are a bunch of nice, young guys like you to replenish my Social Security funds, I'll rent, and may be some day, buy the SUV and the Trailer (with the Trailer to be stored at the Garagemahal). That is, if the CEO of Rodriguez Enterprises, approves it. ::)
Thanks

Hector,

I'm in the same situation.  Would love to take the cobra, but not inclined to drive it there.  Ok early DVSF crowd flame away.   >:(

Troy,
I'll let you know as soon as I find out something definitive about this matter. Some one out there has some answers to my question, I sure.

Good luck...many rental SUV or pick up trucks specifically exclude towing. However, Enterprise seems to have some

Troy,
As Elder mentioned, Enterprise does rent you a truck "for towing" (i.e. Ford 150, 3/4 ton truck). I just finished securing my reservation at Enterprise in Woodbridge, Va. which it is not even open yet, however, it will open during the first day of May.
The manager's name is Rose, tel. # (703) 494-1326. The cost, well, $75/day  with 100 free miles per day (the trip to London is roughly 450 miles one way) plus $0.29/additional mile, do the math. Not cheap, sort of an expensive piece of mind :tickedoff:

Somebody, anybody, please keep an eye on my boy. Maybe someone can go in front and another follow him to Ohio.

Hector, you should try to get some seat time in a truck pulling a trailor befor you set off to Ohio.

Hector,

A couple of questions. Does it come with a brake controller or do you have to add it and what engine is in the truck? I'm going to assume the trailer is not going to be light, so even with the 5.4, you are going to be going slower than I was last year. On the plus side, Ford has some excellent deals on some F250s.

Hector,
I punch in some info for a truck from Enterprise, and it comes back $427.00 for a week, with unlimited mileage....  http://www.enterprise.com/car_rental/carDetails.do?transactionId=WebTransaction5&selectedCar=PPAR.  I don't know how many times I've told you to drop the accent,  they just take advantage of you.....

The link takes you back to the main page, not the page I was on with truck info.  Put in a weeks worth of dates, then select truck, then look at "see details".   The large pickup is 350.00 a week, but comes to 427.00 with taxes etc etc....unlimited mieage.

Hector,
Another alternative would be to drive it for 4-5 hours one day with a nice long lunch break in the middle of that drive, stay overnight, then get up the next morning and drive the next 2+ hours in.  This would be relaxing and would negate having to rent a truck and trailer.  Make sure the trailer you rent comes with a hitch and sway bars if you do decide to tow. Okay Hector, little too pricey for me and I don't even have a trailer yet.  Screw it, maybe we should see if anyone else is intersted in caravaning out there in their cobras w/ the "trailer pullers.".  Like Huggy said, break the trip into two days if necessary.

Grow a pair and drive, for crissakes.  That's what they are for.  The adrenaline dump produced by extended periods of sheer terror and intense focus will keep you young.
