First of all let me say that I did not attend.  Here are a few reasons why.  I had family in town.  Even though it was fairly close my guess is this convention was one of the smallest.  $100 for 15 minutes of track time seems a but much.  Shelby used to come to most of the SAAC conventions - he will never come to another after the falling out with Kopec.  If you can believe what the magazines said Rick was running the club (basically his private for-profit business) without abiding to contractual agreements he had with Shelby.  I have been to SAAC conventions since the 80's and it the same group of people running it that have a good time at the members expense.  I'm sure the loyalists will still around until the bitter end but I can see SAAC going bust once Rick is out of the picture.  I did enjoy the once a year magazine (the Shelby American) but even that has gone on-line only.  It was one excuse after another on the registries being years late.  After all these years the ringleaders still print the most juvenille of comments.  This group of good old boys can try to relive the good old days but I think their days are numbered.

I attended this event.  It was my first time at SAAC and most people said that it was not as big as previous years.

The weather was perfect and it was a very fun trip.  The cost of the track session was $100 for two 20 minute track sessions.  I was surprised at the beating I was able to put on my F1 tires in a mear 20 minutes.  There was only about 12 cars so it was not crowded at all.  I got the Backdraft up to about 125.  There was not much going on other than the track.  There was a vintage race and after driving the track, it made watching the race even more exciting.  All in all, it was well worth it.
