SCCA PDX/TT May 1,2 Summit Point
« on: April 14, 2010, 09:14:04 am »
FYI, This is a really fun, low key event. You get tons of track time, good instructors, a cookout/party Saturday, and a Time Trial on Sunday if you like. The run groups tend to be much smaller than most track days and their are 5 20 minute sessions on Saturday. Spectators are welcome free.

The Shenendoah track is very technical with top speeds a little lower than the main track.

Bens bringing his Coupe, and Jim Harris will be there with his new fast C5 Z06.

I may try to make it Sunday with one of the Mach1's.  I have not been on Shenandoah so I'm not sure how that will go.   :buck2:

Rex,
Sunday is a really low key day. Most of the PDX'ers from Saturday have left. The instructors are great, and you will get lots of time in small groups...so you won't get tired from giving point bye's..It's a fun day. You can ride along at these events, and are welcome to go for a ride.

The track it fun and technical, perfect for you.

It should be a lot of nice open track.

The Shenandoah has some very cool elevation changes, straight stretches and turns: a long blind uphill straight dumping into a banked concrete carousel, uphill off camber corkscrew, a couple of big lazy sweepers, a long back straight, a downhill chicane, a left sweeper into another short straight, a descending radius left hook into another downhill combo, and then roll back onto the blind bridge straight.  Zero g at the crest. 2.2 miles. 20 turns.

I can close my eyes and almost feel myself driving it.  Its a blast!

I finally talked the mysterious Trevor into joining us. He has his newly aero modified FFR ready to go, fresh back from VIR. Should add some excitement. A pic of some of his mods can be seen at reply #15 on this thread, he is a NASA  instructor. It also has a full belly pan and badass rear diffuser. Fred

TTT.... guys if you want to check out a track event, this might be the one to do.  Not sure how they handle single rollbar cars.  But right now the count is extremely low....  This was posted on the cornercarvers site today, by one of the organizers...

"We have our first open event of 2010 coming up on May 1-2 at Summit Point - on the Shenandoah circuit. At this point, our entry numbers are so low that it's scary. 29 cars for Saturday which is all-day PDX. Sunday there's 13 PDX cars and 6 Club-trials cars (some overlap too).We think our prices are fair:

    * PDX (Saturday only) - $225
    * PDX (Sunday only ) - $125
    * PDX (Sat and Sun) - $350
    * Club Trials (Sunday only) - $185
    * Club Trials and Sunday PDX - $275
    * Club Trials and 2-day PDX - $375"

I'd love to make it, but my cars not ready...

They did not pick a very good day, so their will be tons of track time with very few cars. Last year we felt like it was a private track day.

Sunday is a steal at $125!

Hopefully you'll be able to see the Famous Rex "Hoover Dam" Turner in his Mighty Mach 1 face off against Elder in his P.O.S. TrakCar. You might be able to see Trevor blow up his (or someone else's) car.

I know Dervish is on One lap, but what's the matter with Herb/R3 and Sons? Condom Boy? Lawn Boy? Mark?

Where are Caskie and Chambers in their Boxters?

Wade can't you bring the Miata and face off against Fast Freddie!

As I recall, Chipper has some track tires for his C-6!

So why are only two people signed up (including me) for Sunday?  :?
Not sure yet if I'll be driving the 04 or 72.

Don't worry Rex,
There will be more signed up, plus all the freeloading "instuctors". You will get more time than you can imagine on Sunday though. Scheduling a PDX against the very well attended Fed Ex SCCA event wasn't to smart.

and another thing. The Sunday only entries do not reflect all the Saturday entries who also are doing Sunday, just the Sunday only people.

I've never been to the Fedex ones but I have autocrossed at the Univ of MD, Southside Speedway, Old Dominion Speedway, the Hoffman Building, NSA, some Fort down near Petersburg and at All Ford Carlisle to name a few.  Since I'm not worried about SCCA points and I've done my share of autocrossing over the last 25 years and have not been on the Shenandoah circuit this seemed like a good opportunity.  My #1 goal is to have fun and I never had any unrealistic visions of being anywhere close to competitive driving a 3700 lb. Mustang.  If get the backfiring problem sorted out I'll drive the old mach1, otherwise I'll have a blast in the 2004 which obviously has more power and handles three times better than the classic beast and if Scott is out there he will only be able to lap me every five laps instead of three.  :lol:

PS - I hope to do one of the events in Cumberland but we're having a house built on out lot this summer so I am looking for garage space and a place to live for six months so it's going to be a crazy year.

Whoever is driving knows the course well and that's an impressive run given that it was still wet. O0
