Elder's Wild Ride!!!!

Well, just had a fine dinner with the Ghostrider in the trailer and gleaned a few more details, even if they were retrospectives:

The rear door remained open the whole time.

The side door was closed.

The trailer missed the fenceposts by "that much".

The trailer's jack plate made the third track between the wheel tracks.

The trailer missed the water well by "that much" - the small bump in the lawn to the right in the center photo.

Subjectively Elder reported a duration of two hours for the trip which most likely occupied thirty seconds or less.

The trailer received a slight scuff to the rear door - no other damage was noted!

Helen once again thought Scott had been killed judging by the noise made by the trailer jack foot as it dragged down the paved part of the driveway.

Elder said he was holding the brakes down with superhuman force during the ride. It was not determined whether it was his desire to stop the car from sliding if the trailer contacted something solid and came to a sudden stop, or whether he was trying subconsciously to stop the trailer, or both.

After the trailer stopped due to going uphill just before slamming into the trees, the foot of the jack plate dug in, preventing a further ride back in the opposite direction.

This is clearly a staged occurrence for the purpose of establishing an urban legend

We must keep this simple if it is going to work. I'm thinking Chocks or Hitch as in Trailer Hitch, you know, Keep it simple stupid.

Very scary......thanks Tom. I'll pay double attention to the checklist from now on....a good lesson. I'm equally guilty of trying to do mundane things quickly to save some time.

I'm very glad that nothing or no one was badly damaged.

Colin, good point....guess it depends on how much the tongue pad was raised.

Elder AKA "Knight-Rider" and his car K.I.T.T. (that won't confuse anyone  )

Remember how Michael Knight had to drive his "car" onto the moving trailer?

That is twice in recent memory that cars have been loaded into trailers that were not hooked up...

I don't know about the Elder..... seems he's more forgetful lately.

At Rehoboth, he did a repeat of Carlisle..... locked his keys in the truck, dead battery, and then couldn't find the magnetic key box he stuck under the truck body........ walking around saying "I'm screwed" ..., "I'm screwed"..... but after looking under the truck for the tenth time, he finally remembered where he hid it

And now he forgets what that little gizmo on the trailer coupler is for

LOL!!! 8O 8O 8O Man, I laughed my butt off just now!
I am glad that neither the Cobra, the trailer, and most importantly, The Elder, didn't get hurt. Talk about OPPS! His name should be
"4 leaf" because he was VERY lucky IMO!

With double negatives like that the Elder is cursed for sure now. Look out, trouble comes in threes. 8O

As I did not read the forum over the weekend and I was catching up on the weekend entertainment and noted the following post from Wade about the upcoming autocross:

Doc might go as my significant other instead.
I continued to read through the thread knowing that Elder would not pass up on an opportunity like this and knowing that the comments I would soon read would be a great start to the week. To my dismay, nothing from Elder. I was starting to wonder if I needed to call 911 or have someone stop by to check on him.

NOW I KNOW WHY!!! :D :D :D

Elder,

Glad there was no serious damage.

Oh, one more thing:

Prayers were stated to have been offered during the ride. It was not stated to which deity, exactly what was being requested, or whether there was any commitment from Elder concerning penance or other concession(s) to said deity...

My, my, my! As someone said a few pages ago on this thread, the possibilities for the rest of us are endless.  But you know, as these sorts of things happen increasingly for our hapless friend, the name "Elder" seems more appropriate than ever. 8O  8O  8O

Elder...dude!!! So glad neither man nor machine was hurt, thereby allowing the club to bust your chops with impunity!!! Tom's updates had me crying with laughter at my computer!! Too, too funny!!! I would have given my left doodad to have had a video camera on Elder's face during the ride!!!

Elder, on behalf of the entire club...thanks for being you!!! We love you, man!!!

WHOA! I am glad that you and the car and the trailer are ok!

Rule #1: Never load a trailer on a hill.

Rule #2: Always use the safety chains.

Rule #3: Never let anything bad get out to the CACC. We will never let you forget.

As Chipper said, maybe "Elder" fits better now than before. But it's just not right to leave it alone. How about "Elder-er" or "Elder-est" or "Elder-ing" or "More-Elder" or "Elder-ever-after" or "Woah-Elder" or "Holy #@*! Elder" or "Pucker-Elder" or .....
Let's try a few more while there is time  .

Just had to pass along my brother-in-law's observation upon reading this thread:

Elder must be really good at backing a trailer -- can do it without being connected.
