Instructions for posting images in the Gallery

This set of instructions is outdated and I haven't gotten around to fixing it. Sorry.

To post to the Image Gallery, you first need to join the right "Usergroup". Select "Usergroups" at the top right area of this screen. Select "Gallery_Users" from the drop down list and then "lookup". Join the group. All new member requests have to be approved so you will have to wait until I can clear it. Once you are activited, click on "Image Gallery" underneath the logo in the upper left of the screen.

As long as you are logged into the forum you will also be logged into the Gallery. Guests have viewing rights to all albums by default. I'll get to that in a moment.

Any logged in user can create a new "album". To do so select "New Album" on the right side of the screen. This will create a new album and move you into that album. First thing you should do is select "properties" on the right. This will bring up a seperate window. Change the "Album Title" and then hit "apply" at the bottom. The window may or may not go away...if it doesn't you can close it at this point. You can adjust permissions by selecting "Permissions" on the right. Unless you want others to be able to post a picture to your album this should be unnecessary.

You can now add photos by selecting "Add Photos" on the right. This brings up a new window which allows you to select pictures off of your hard drive. You can also specify a website to pull pictures from. Four important caveats:

1.)You have the option of choosing how many files to upload. Change this before selecting pictures! If you list 5 pics on there and decide you need to add a 6th, changing the drop down box will effectively reset the form and wipe out your selections. You can reselect everything at that point but it's obviously a pain in the a**.

2.)Don't try to grab stuff off of the Yahoo site. You might be able to log into Yahoo but the server can't! It will fail on the attempt.

3.)Read the instructions in the windows! Closing windows before the actions are complete will cause the task to fail!

4.)Supported file types include: JPG, PNG and GIF. BMP is not supported. Others may be supported but those are the common ones.

Once your pictures are done uploading you can perform actions on the individual pics. There is a drop down box where you can "edit caption". This is for you to make comments that will show up under that pic. You can select "Highlight this photo". Highlighting a photo makes it the featured pic for your album in the albums list. Obviously, you can have only one highlighted photo. You can delete a photo or move it to another album. Lastly, hiding a photo hides it from everyone except the owner of that album. Not just from guests.

Lastly, please don't "rebuild thumbs". If it becomes necessary to do so, I'll take care of it. Thanks!

I think this is good enough to get everyone started. Please post usage questions in this thread and I'll address them here. Enjoy!

Hmmm....

I hate to say this, but I can't find any "new album" anywhere. All it says on my screen is: "search" and a box.

I've tried with Netscape 4.79 and IE 5.5. Same result.

Can you give me one more clue?

Regards,

Tom

OK - I just requested to join the user group

Do I need a security clearance from the CIA too

Scott B,
I uploaded 5 pix. None took. :( Got some reject messages about BMP? :? What gives? What kind or size of pix does it take or not take. Please add info to inx.

Scott,
I've edited the original instructions. You managed to find one of the few common types that is not supported. From a graphics perspective, BMP's are not effecient. They take up a whole lotta space so that's why they aren't supported with stuff like this. Sorry bout that! The pics you sent me are JPG's and they posted fine. Can I assume you have something that will be able to convert from BMP to JPG?

I tried to upload some jpg files. I got an error message that said the thumbnails were not created. I tried to download the gallery program which would "allow" me to drag and drop pics, again no luck... not having a good pic day. Can I email them somewhere? What do I do?

post pix

Scott,

I'd like to just attach a photo to a thread. Is that hard? I'm pretty much a novice at this.

Harry,

Direct attachment isn't supported. You need to upload the pic somewhere, such as our Gallery, and then link it from there.

After you upload the picture to the gallery (or elsewhere on the WEB), in order to attach the image to your message, do the following:

1. Place the cursor on the image (full size or thumbnail) & right click to bring up the table with Properties.

2. Click on the Properties box to open.

3. Then highlight the Address (URL) and copy/paste it to the thread. For example this is the Address (URL) of an image in the gallery: http://www.capitalareacobraclub.com/albums/album217/115_1533_IMG.highlight.jpg

4. Finally, highlight the Address (URL) in the thread and go up and Click on the Img box. The symbol
b] will appear in front of the URL and[i][b]
after it. Then the post/submit the message and the picture should appear in the message like this:

115_1533_IMG.highlight.jpg

Additional Inx that may work:
First click on and open up the "Gallery" this appears in the upper left side of the screen.

Scroll down and click on the the main album you want. I.e "CACC Owner's Gallery",

Or you can add photos to on of your existing albums.

Then go to the "admin options" box in the upper right side and select the "pull-down menu"

Scroll down to "new nested album" & click on it.

Next screen that appears is the "untitled" new album to which you can add photos.

Again, go to the the "admin options" box in the upper right side and select the "add photos"

Then upload pix as before.

Don't forget to go back and add a title to the album.

I need to adjust the instructions at the beginning of this thread. For now, follow the link I posted in the main area.

Hi Scott,
I am a new member on the forum. I do not have any link or ICON to the picture Gallery. Do I need a permission turned on or something? Thanks!
