I am hearing through blogs and other owners that an upgrade from the stock shifter is recommended. Many I have spoken with recommend a Pro 5.0 shorter type shifter both for quality and ease of use. Can anyone shed some light on the need to do this ? If anyone has done this can you tell me how difficult it was to change out the shifter?

You don't give much information, so...have to assume you mean for a T5 transmission on a FFR Cobra.

I have one in the T5 on my '89 Mustang TraKCar. It has solid crisp shifts with positive stops. Very helpful for a car that is predominately track driven. Don't know if you need it on a street driven Cobra. Shouldn't be hard to swap depending on how you attached the aluminum on the top of the tunnel.

Ah sorry, have TKO600 5 speed xmission, car is new, but I did not install it so I would not be able to tell you how the tunnel went on. From what I have read a novice (that's what I am) could do it in 4-6 hours with a lot of patience.

Assuming you have a recent FFR, the top of the tunnel should be removable. If so, swapping out the shifter is a quick job.IMG_2426_zps0fc55316.jpg

Maybe I missed something, but the Pro 5.0 upgrade was recommended on the T-5s and 3550s, but I don't remember a lot of people making the same recommendation for the TKO600. I have a 600 and ''m not sure I notice a problem.

For me there is no problem. I just would prefer to have a shorter throw on the shifter for quicker and smoother shifting.

Mike didn’t say, but I thought he had a Superformance, which means that the trans tunnel is removable, though the first time is tough. They used dzus fasteners to hold it on, but also used a sealer that needs to be cut through.

That is correct Val, I have a Superformance. I'm a little nervous about doing any work to this machine, but I have ordered parts and will take up the carpet and look at the tunnel when they parts get here. I appreciate the info from all.

Then disregard the photo I provided...it's from an FFR
